Year 6 School Journey - June 2026
Thursday
Today has been rather a damp, grey, drizzly day in terms of weather, but the children have remained in good spirits. All of them have had some sort of climbing activity - either the vertical challenge which is outside and involves ladders, tyres and a scrambling net, or inside with the more traditional climbing wall.
Other activities today have included rifle shooting, buggy building and aeroball, which is very hard to photograph but basically involves four children, each within a mini trampoline, aiming to throw balls into a net on the other side. A great way of expending a lot of energy in a safe and fun way.
On Friday, all the children will catch up with any activity they have not yet done this week.

Today has been another day with some reasonable sunshine, but also a few light showers - but who cares if it's raining and you are in a canoe getting a little splashed anyway. All groups have now been canoeing - but given the need to keep IT equipment dry, it is not so easy to get photographs of this activity (though that didn't stop most of the teachers also enjoying time in the canoes). The 3G swing has also been enjoyed by everyone, some more than others, there has been lots of problem solving, and more time on the sensory trail.

Tuesday
What a great day! The weather has been kind to us, and the children have enjoyed a wide range of activities, including:
- archery tag (which one child described as archery with "giant marshmallow arrows" - these are arrows with soft round heads that can be aimed at people, without causing any harm)
- abseiling (where everyone did amazingly well, even if they only managed to climb the tower)
- giant swing
- micro-scooters (Mrs Glew thoroughly enjoyed this apparently!)
- sensory trail (the reason most children will be coming home with muddy shoes and clothes
Below are just a selection of photographs from where I have been with the groups. The teachers have taken lots more which will be shared with the children.

Monday
Good evening from Barton Hall,
Firstly, an apology for the delayed update - we only had access to our rooms just before 7pm, hence the delay this evening.
After leaving Harlands, we travelled via Southampton, with a stop at Rownhams Services, in order to avoid major congestion on the M25. We then cut back up via Salisbury, but unfortunately got caught in traffic in the Stonehenge area. This meant that we finally arrived at Barton Hall just after 2pm, and after dropping our bags into the storage area, all groups went off for a very welcome swim, and also orienteering.
After a very tasty dinner at around 6pm, we then had access to our rooms, and the children are all now out enjoying their evening activity, which is a giant game of Cluedo around the site.
I will try and post some pictures of the children and the site shortly.
Mrs Michael
Apologies that the pictures are a bit blurred - the last two are the view from some of the bedroom windows down across Torbay
