Year 6 School Journey - June 2025

Wednesday, 11 June 2025

An earlier update today, as this afternoon the children have either been fencing or are enjoying time in the swimming pool, so there has been a bit more time for staff to share their photos.

Last night the children enjoyed a silent disco, whilst this morning all the children have taken part in "archery tag" and what is called a "vertical challenge".  The pictures from the vertical challenge for all the activities groups are below - hopefully you will be able to spot your son/daughter somewhere and marvel at how well they have done,  Whilst only four children climb at a time, the rest of the group act as the belay party - ie keeping the safety ropes tight (although the instructors also do this).  Some of the photos are a little indistinct as the children are pretty high up, especially if they managed to climb to the top, but  you may at least be able to recognise them from their clothing, even if you cannot see their faces.

The children have had another fantastic day, sunny but with a little bit of drizzle at times that has not dampened their sports.  They have been building their teamwork as they focussed on survival skills including den building and fire lighting (which took a lot of perseverance in some cases), as well as carrying out some problem solving challenges.

The children were also more personally challenged by the Trapeze and Rock climbing activities, with pretty well everyone at least having a go.  They should be very proud of themselves.

(What is below is only a very small selection of the many photos staff have taken to give a flavour of the activities, but most of the photos will be shared with the children when they return to school so they can relive their experiences,)

Wow, what a day!  After the speedy get-away this morning, we made good time to Rownhams Services for a toilet stop.  However, the next stage of the journey was much slower (due to an accident) and so we only stopped briefly at Lyme Regis for toilets, and then the children ate lunch on the coach whilst we continued straight to Barton Hall.  This meant that we were able to arrive just on 2.00pm and the children went straight into activities of either buggy building or rifle shooting, even before finding their chalets.

The children have now all eaten a good dinner, and are enjoying their evening activity, after which hopefully they might sleep!
