Secondary Schools

The secondary transfer process is administered by the County Admission Office, who will write to all parents of children due to transfer in the September of the year that children are in year 6.  Children are initially allocated a school according to their address, but parents may opt for a different school if they wish, and subject to space being available.

In order to facilitate the process, our local secondary schools hold open days in September or October. This gives parents and children a chance to visit them before making a decision about which one to apply to.  There is an appeals process for any unsuccessful applications.

The majority of children transfer to either Warden Park School  or Oathall Community College. We have an excellent programme of liaison with both schools. Teachers visit Harlands to meet the children and their teachers. Children are invited to spend a day at their new school in the Summer Term. Additional visits are arranged for children who may have extra anxiety about the transfer.

The choice of a pupil's secondary school is entirely a matter for parental decision; our role is to offer parents information and support.

Warden Park's website can be found at www.wardenpark.co.uk

Oathall Community College's website is currently at www.oathall.w-sussex.sch.uk
