Investors in Health
Harlands were very proud on Monday 17th September 2007 to be presented with our certificate for being an investors in health centre in West Sussex.
We are very proud of the awards that we have received for being a healthy and happy school! We all do lots of exercise and sport at school and we enjoy healthy eating. Our school is happy because we are friendly people, we help each other, we take turns and we are polite to each other. We think it is very important to be good citizens. We make sure we talk to each other and sort out any worries or problems with lots of circle times. We have good reward systems to help our behaviour throughout the school. Our whole school answered questionnaires about how healthy and happy we are and we worked together to make some positive changes to get this vry important award. There are 300 schools in West Sussex and less than 50 have gained the Investors in Health award.
We should all be very proud of this achievement!

Harlands Primary School become National Kwik Cricket champions
Friday, 13th July proved to be a day of dreams, not nightmares for the Harlands cricket team, as they were crowned National Kwik Cricket champions at Headingley.
Following their success in the county and regional qualifying rounds of the Kwik Cricket tournament, the team arrived at the Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground to represent the South-East of England in an event, which involved 15 other regional winners from across the United Kingdom.
The team got off to a great start, beating Scotforth St Pauls School from Lancashire by a huge margin. Wins against Abbey Primary School from Leicestershire and the local representatives, Archbishop Primary School from York, saw Harlands win their qualifying group and progress to the semi-finals.
The semi-final against Valley Gardens School, from Tyne and Wear was a tense affair, with both teams performing extremely well with both bat and ball. Great composure from their final pair (Bill and Will) saw Harlands emerge victorious by just 5 runs.
Full of confidence from their victory in the semi-final, Harlands performed well when put into bat in the final by Halesworth Middle School from Suffolk, finishing on a total of 226-3. However, it was the speed, consistency and accuracy of their bowling, which ultimately won Harlands the National Kwik Cricket title, with all the Halesworth batsmen finding it hard to put bat to ball and finishing on a total of just 203-3.
The excitement of becoming National champions was enhanced for the Harlands team, when they were presented with the trophy by England and Lancashire all-rounder Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff.
Their Headingley triumph capped a tremendous week for the team, as they had finished third in the National hardball competition, just three days before.
Mr Simmonds and Mr Turner would like to say a big thank you to all those who have helped to make this cricket season, the most successful in the school’s history. Special credit must go to all those parents, who have helped with transport and to Mrs Mennecillo from the school office, who has successfully navigated her way through the barrage of paperwork, which has come her way.
The most credit however, should be reserved for the team themselves, who remained calm and composed throughout the tournament, when in a cauldron of excitement.

Wireless Networks in School
Some concerns have been expressed recently about the use of wireless networks in schools. A recent Panorama programme on BBC television may have increased levels of anxiety for some people.
